Uhm, that is just because I have never edited a PDF with transparency in
CS2, so I did not know about that option! Thanks for letting us know
about it, though, for future reference... :)


Neither have I, knowingly that is ... Whenever I export files from AW2
to Illustrator, they invariably contain hatch fills.

Hatch fills are exported as individual shapes, so they are irrelevant.

That's what I would have expected ...

I wouldn't have expected the "flatten transparency" option in CS2 to
apply. However, this seems to be the only way I can make an AW2 PDF
editable in Illustrator. Perhaps Martin can offer an explanation?

On further investigation, the "editability" of PDFs seems to depend on how the file is loaded/imported into CS2. For instance ...

Right-Click on the PDF file > Open With > Adobe Illustrator CS2 results in an error message: "Path ... file.pdf is not a valid Win32 application" -- and the file will not load into Illustrator.

"Place" the PDF into a new Illustrator CS2 document -- the PDF will load but is not editable until you "Flatten transparency"

Load Illustrator CS2 first, then "Open > file.pdf" and the PDF is editable straight away.

All very strange ... and now somewhat off topic!
