Beste Udo, dear Glenn,

As Udo said, if this also fails, it is time to check the two components
that you have blindly trusted so far: Your networking card and its packet
driver. As I was still able to connect the net via my Baslinux on the
same box, I started looking at the packet driver. I have as before all
the time used the driver supplied with Arachne, the ne2000.com from
november 22, 1993. Found in nwclient which I once just installed as I put
Drdos 7.3 on the box an newer and especially much bigger ne2000.com. Date
April 1, 1996. Size 23509 kb against 8693 kb for the Arachne variant.
Used it and was at once on the web with Arachne. Do not know why and could not
reproduce the effect after I started to clean up my autoexec.bat.
I then started to put some wait ('s) between the commands in the autoexec.bat
and finally found out that although the setup program, provided with the
card, gave the correct data, in the praxis the ne2000 driver from Arachne had
its own ideas. Solution: ne2000 0x60 0x3 0x600 fix on the command line,
preventing to have it at random changed to irq 9 or wathever.
And now everything works as it should.
