Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!

HI Greg,
                   Good question......the answer is
because in one case, (Alt-X), arachne exits
into its own shell( the 1st command.com)
so the command EXIT has no effect. There
is no command.com to shut down(ie. there
is no shell to exit) and also; since ALT-X was
used, Arachne doesn't write a batch file to
restart Arachne. When ALT-E is used then
Arachne is shut down and then a new shell
is opened(the 2nd command.com). When
the 2nd command.com shell is closed by
the EXIT command, then Arachne is automatically
restarted by the batch file that created the
shell(the 2nd command.com) in the 1st
place.
So like I said, with Alt-X, Arachne requires
the command arachne to start her. With Alt-E,
the command EXIT is required to exit the DOS
shell...and...since the DOS shell was opened
by a call from a batch file which Arachne created,
then Arachne is started automatically by the
command "arachne" in that same batch file.
