Hmmm ... looks like you overlooked my other message.  :-(
 
In summary, the problem you are describing is NOT due
to JavaScript, it is due to SSL (HTTPS). You need to add
this to your 'arachne.cfg' :    Https2Http Yes

Probably is. There's more and more JS around these days, even
when it doesn't seem to be necessary.

I can't download the files we get notice of in the Arachne-at-
Yahoo site as it requires me to log in and the login screen
brings up an unknown protocol error in Arachne, probably
javascript.

Is anyone looking at giving Arachne some JS capability?

I hope.....
