You know something I don't if you're wanting to upgrade from 1.75 since
Glenn hasn't released 1.77 yet AFAICT.  Anyway, you've got one of those
stupid nigeling configuration problems and it won't be any different in
the next version since none of those isssues have been looked at yet.
I'm hoping that sooner rather than latter we'll start looking at 
beefing up the error checking in Arachne's startup code to catch 
this sort of thing.
