yes, i know - that means during that time it was not clear, what
would be happen if development by the arachne team, or later by
caldera uk was stopped. it wasn't free in the sense that i could
give it to friends - and let they do with arachne whatever they
wanted - nor in the sense that i could have a look into the code,
change it, improve it (even make it worse) ... or whatever.

by the way, version 1.70 and prior versions still are not free in
this sense, i.e. the freedom of thoughts and information.

i see, that's a pitty - i like mc a lot and it would have been great
to have something like a gui version of mc bundled with elinks. :)

oh, i didn't even know that there are two different forks. which one
is mainline, then? what are the main differences?

alright, i'll try! :)

sure, that's what i'll do - gonna report as soon as i've collected
some usefull content.

so, does this also mean, that the two different versions of arachne
just mentioned are being merged by glenn?

again, what about freedos? couldn't there be people who want to help
in this project? wouldn't it be great if arachne was included into
the main freedos distributions? (or even, if arachne-32 was part of
freedos-32!?)

i've seen a screenshot on glenn's site, where he's using it. on the
other hand, i've read a quite critical posting at the freshmeat
project site, claiming that the gnu/linux version of arachne
couldn't really be used? do people on the list have any experiences?

ah, great news. so, can anybody report on the status, please? as
mentioned, i'm not a programmer, but if i can help (at least by
finding bugs, writing documentation, debianizing it or whatever),
i'd like to... ;)

btw, is this here the most "noisy" list atm? what about the other
list and the developers' group at yahoo? are they still in use?

yes, it did. thank you a lot for your explanations!
