Well, I would suggest to first try to port Arachne to a compiler that
supports both Real Mode DOS and DPMI16/32, e.g. OpenWatcom. This would
both allow the widest possible range of target platforms, including
non-DOS OSes, and make for an easy migration path since one would not
have to deal with both a new compiler and a new memory model at the same
time.
Using an Open Source compiler that is still being developed might also
have additional benefits; for example, it might help to attract more
developers to the Arachne project, and allow using more modern
libraries.
