Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!

Some wise person is reputed to have once said "Know when to pick your
battles."

I think that implied that petty stuff was a waste of time and energy.

If someone wants to write a new internal editor for Arachne, have at it!
Do it on your own, refine it, and when you think it works -- release it
as a beta and see if you can get anyone to play around with it and help
you refine it. If no one plays with it, it might imply that your time
could have been better spent elsewhere. If everyone plays with it,
gives you positive feedback, and you manage to come out with a stable
version that runs with Arachne without having to make changes to
anything else ... WOW! You came up with a great idea!!

However, since it is simple enough for anyone to decide to use an
external editor already ... and since many people don't worry about a
lot of "t crossing" and "i dotting" in e-mail ... and since fewer still
will use the internal editor to modify html pages so Arachne can read
them, or modify internal Arachne htp/htm/ah etc files, the internal
editor is -- in my opinion -- certainly not worth fighting over and
wasting time on.

Anyone who wants a REAL challenge should take a close look at what the
Arachne.PCK file is supposed to do, and consider finding a way to
separate "permanent data" from "volatile data" that's currently
co-mingled in that file.

outta here
