Actualy I was thinking of DOS16 specificaly; DPMI would of course
change everything.

This isn't in dispute, it's just that certain OS's make some things
more difficult than others do. Given enough effort, one can solve
any problem. Eg. MP solved the memory problem to some extent with
the xswap system.
