I used Glenn McCorckle's boot disk EXACTLY as sent, at his
insistence, after I had experimented with sundry variations.

In the earlier stages I did use NWCACHE under OpenDOS. The
results were similar.

Yes, agreed. I have OpenDOS installed on the hard disk, and the
first thing I tried was a more or less direct translation of my
CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to use all OpenDOS components.

Due to the problems, I changed to Glenn's boot disk with VDISK
added, and the path extended to include the root directory and
the batchfile and utilities directories on my hard disk.

Glenn suggested that I remove the batchfile directory from the
path. I went further and removed all references to the hard
drive.

Glenn then insisted I remove VDISK, so I went back to his
original boot disk unammended, and changed the ARACHNE.CFG to
remove references to the virtual disk. That was the state of play
when I posted the configs for MS-DOS and OpenDOS.

Yes, I think that is obvious.

But Glenn insisted that I try his boot disk exactly as it was
sent.

But for now I have given up doing any more tests.

Every time I change something it means rebooting and reconnecting
which costs me at least one more local call fee, sometimes as
many as four times to try minor changes.

So far I've spent about $30 on the extra calls for this
experimenting, which I can ill afford on my income.

Greg
