Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club!

Have just checked and, Greg, you may be pleased to hear that I too can
experience abnormal delays.

When downloading an html page which should take less than 10 sec, the
bytes read count can freeze several times during the download for
periods between a few seconds and at least 40 sec.

I can prevent this in two ways.

First the funny one: waggle the mouse during the download. Don't
laugh, it works every time!

Next the practical one, stick with pppd which gives no problem. With
Joe's lsppp I find the mouse is needed. Not really a problem when you
get used to it. Gives you something to do during the download <g>

In case the rest of the group are wondering how they have escaped
miceitis, I may have brought this on myself by using doze95. In this
case the terminology you folks like is fitting (the OS dozes off)

Maybe a third way of avoiding this problem is not to use either
windoze or opendoze <g>

John
