Further to the Slackware business, on opening the Linux directory
under DOS, there is an FAQ.TXT file that discusses the very
problem that I was having with the unzip, with an explanation and
a possible solution.

You have to unzip the package to find the reason why it won't
unzip, and a possible solution. But of course you can't see it
until the package is unzipped....

It reminded me of the problem we had here in the 1960's with milk
bottles. You couldn't buy a bottle of milk unless you returned an
empty bottle. But you couldn't get an empty bottle unless you
bought one and used the contents.
