Greg,
 I can't be sure how your TV station does it, but most
websites that have RSS feeds, will have a little orange
box that says 'xml'. With some clients, just clicking this
will enter the feed into your client. If using a browser
you will get an xml page. Just enter the http URL this
page has, into your client. After that, when you activate
the feed, you will be downloaded 'Highlights' that you can
browse thru. Clicking a 'Highlight' will give a short
description of that 'Highlight', then if you want to read
about it, you will click, or in someway select that
'Highlight' for viewing. Some clients have the 'Highlight'
and description together. For news services, you usually
get the headlines, with a short description of content of
each. Kinda like a newspaper with just headlines that you
would choose from, then get the whole story, when you select
it. Some clients use a threepane tree view, others a list.
Software developers use RSS feeds to keep interested people
up to date on changes, or security issues. There are other
uses also. It saves time from trawling around thru websites
and news sites and such. You will see designated RSS feeds
on many sites now. I think maybe you should check out a
friend or someone with windo$e or Linux who uses it, to
get an idea of what it is. Here are some feeds I use.

http://gaim.sourceforge.net/rss.php/news
http://news.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_world_edition/front_page/rss.xml

I would enter those into my client just as they are, just once.
After that, I can instantly download, or browse those feeds.
In Snownews my feeds are listed, I select one, hit enter to see
the 'Highlights'. I hit 'r' to update a feed. I select a 'Highlight'
and get a short description, hit 'o' and I get the whole story.
Someplaces you can get software updates this way.
I hope this helps end your confusion a little. Maybe glennmcc can
get you using Arachne in this way.

Greg,
Many people using other systems than DOS routinely
use RSS. It's much easier to view the headlines with
a short description of content, than to pore thru
long web pages, for the things that interest them.
Thanx to glennmcc, DOS users can now, join the rest
of the world, in the use of this conveniance.

But I'm still in the dark as to what RSS actually is.

Over a week ago, I subscribed for an RSS program listing of one of our
local TV stations. I received several emails that my subscription had
been approved.

Since then nothing has happened.

Do I have to wait for them to email me the progam listing, I assume in
RSS format?

Or do I have to do something?

And if the latter, what do I have to do?

I assume the converter Glenn McCorkle has developed is just something to
convert files in RSS format to another format such as HTML that Arachne
can handle.

But where does the RSS file come from?

And how does it get to my computer?
