If it was compatible it would be easier to "unify the sources", which
you are now seeing as perhaps a virtue. But as a separate distro with
a unique structure it is destined to remain separate. Seems to me you
can't have it both ways. At least not easily and not without a great
deal of effort and a co-operative intent of the development "mob".
