I think this is an assumption of yours, not an explanation - there is no
such thing like 16- or 32-bit transfers in TCP/IP.

Besides, I also use the same 16-bit version of Arachne to upload files,
and the uploads work smoothly, and after all, one cannot really compare
FTP and SMTP connections.

Apart from the fact that the version of WATTCP that Arachne uses *has*
problems with achieving full on DSL connections, I would rather say that
this particular problem is due to a quirk of either Greg's system or his
ISP.
