Tried out a 4gig usb stick on dos using drivers from:

Works nice. Is there a shortcut key when booting Win95 to go straight to
dos and load config.sys? F8 then 6, works. Shift-F5 shortcut does not seem
to load config device drivers.
I believe there is a dos file manager that can read long file names from
fat32 disks. Can not remember the name of it. Anyone know?

I will post an autoexec.bat and config.sys file for Window$ that will
give you a menu to select whether you want to go straight to DOS
or boot to Windows. An Arachne mailing list member sent the files to
me about four years ago. His name is Bart, forgot his last name.
He is from the Netherlands. I have not seen him posting on the list
in many years. His email address appears in a part of one of the files.
Also a message in the Dutch language appears in the files.
These files are "keepers". I use them on all my WIN95 and WIN98
machines. I will edit out his email address in the public posting.
I have a FreeDOS distro that recognizes USB memory storage devices
and at least one type of PCMCIA device right off the bat.
I have a dual boot Dell laptop on which I had installed FreeDOS on a
fat32 partition and PCLOS (PC Linux OS) on some ext2 partitions.
When I select in my boot menu to boot to the FreeDOS partition any and
all of my various makes and models of USB memory storage devices will be
recognized and assigned a drive letter right off the bat. I didn't even
need to install any USB drivers. When I stick a new and different make
and model of USB memory storage device in it I don't even get presented
with a pop-up window saying "found new hardware" and then another one
saying "please wait while the "found new hardware wizard" searches for
drivers for your new hardware, etc., and neither do I get a wizard
window explaining to me that the wizard has found the drivers for my new
hardware and that I must please wait while the wizard installs the
drivers. Nor do I get a wizard window popping up and telling me that
that I must restart my machine for the new settings to take effect.
FreeDOS just recognizes the new storage device and assigns a drive
letter to it almost instantly, and without the need for the operator to
restart the machine for the new settings to take effect.
My FreeDOS distro just works like that right out of the box!
Installation was very simple. I just booted to the live CD and selected
from a menu the option of installing it to my hard drive. My son sent
the live CD to me. He had downloaded for free the ISO file from a web
site somewhere. Then he extracted and burned the ISO to a CD.
My FreeDOS will even recognize right off the bat a SanDisk six-in-one
PCMCIA memory card reader!
I have been thinking about installing Arachne on the FreeDOS partition.
First I will have to get a PCMCIA ethernet card for which I can obtain
DOS drivers. My Dell Laptop has an internal Broadcom ethernet card.
I can't find any real mode DOS drivers for it. Can anyone recommend
a PCMCIA ethernet card for which I can obtain real mode DOS drivers?
