Hi Wiz,

Sure, most people think of Internet spam as being a plague
on email but, unless we need to discuss a particular aspect
we lump phishing, 419 scams, attached trojans etc., etc. all
in the same group, so why not Web-spam?  

I guess you were too busy enjoying pre- or post-nuptials a
few months ago to notice when both MrMcC's Clone of Clone
of Arachne Quick Chat and prior to that Gregy's AVA message
board were spammed with links to other non-relevant sites.

Years before that when I archived the first months of AQC
I added a "Free-form Add a Link" page. It didn't take long
for half the world's spammers and scammers to realize what
they had to search for (FFAL) as a step to raise the search
engine rankings of the sites they were plugging.

As someone who had to go without his broadband connection
for five weeks last summer (due to telco and service provider
incompetence), anyone who suggests that MY connection should
now be terminated due to eight million compromised machines
(a comparatively small percentage) is standing too close to
Ground Zero. Duck & Cover!
