Rob,

the fact that you confuse Linux kernels with Linux distributions says a
lot about your knowledge of Linux, or rather lack thereof. Whatever
distribution I have originally started with has nothing to do with the
version I am using now.

Talking about the "Sacred Cows", at least DOS users can accept that DOS
has limitations, whereas Linuxers fight ferociously to deny them, as you
have just proved.

Obviously people tend to accept flaws in OSes like WindowsNT and Linux
that they would not accept in DOS, like the lack of drivers, or in this
example, the inability to properly use well-defined software interfaces.

The sole reason for my provocative comments on WinNT and Linux was to
demonstrate this, and you have been very helpful indeed in achieving
this goal. I hope that the other readers found the outcome of this
little experiment as interesting as I do. :-)

So thanks for your help - I hope that anyone who has read this will from
now on think twice before making snide remarks about something that he
or she knows nothing about.

Regards,

Udo
