I can't commetn on Bastiaan, but for myself with Win95 if I go
ahead and start Win95, anything less than a reboot will result in
WIN.COM still being in memory.  Windows 3.1 did not do this, as
you have noted.  But Windows 95 and later have a tendency to treat
the PC as if it is the only operating system installed.  One of
these days I'll run a test and see...as right now I'm booted into
DOS 7 (DOS from Win95A), type WIN at the command line, load Win95,
then exit back and see what is in memory.  At the moment, I'm too
busy celebrating New Years!
