This is a symptom I also had with AVG. It was putting in a text attachment
file that was the certification that AVG had found it not containing a
virus.
I cured it by stopping the certification of incoming emails within the AVG
settings as someone advised me on this list.

Hi Mandy,
Are you using AVG?
I ask this because even though I am using Outlook Express I also recieve
e-mails from some lists which have markers that show that they have
attachments but in reality do not have them.
Someone more experienced like George may be able to explain exactly what is
happening, but as I say I think it is an AVG issue.
