When you do control O to open and hit the tab without the shift you come into
the *file type* menu. Go down the list and see if *all file types* is
selected. It could be that Word has reverted to a default file type that isn't
used in your file list.

  Hi all
Can anyone give me any suggestions how to put the following right.

When I am in Microsoft word document, if i do controo+o then tab+shift
I find all my document fiels have disappeared
And yet if I go to the documents folder via start menu and press d
I can get to my files that way.

How do I get them back via ms word.

  I am using windows98se and office 2000

  Thank you.
