No-one has mentioned the Plextalk PTR2 yet and I would not be without mine. 
It can also produce in wav which I use for a lot of projects for obvious 
reasons. Given that it is designed for the visually impaired, every single 
option, of which there are many, has a spoken prompt including the record 
level and battery indicator.
Strictly speaking, it is a daisy recorder, but as well as the fact that 
daisy can be an advantage in some situations, you can easily take the files 
out of there onto your computer for further editing, although the PTR2 has a

full suite of on the fly (or post recording) editing facilities.

I don't want to get into a debate about whether the PTR2 is better than the 
edirol recorders, because apart from it being written about to death on the 
list it's a boring subject. I am just saying the PTR2 is another product to 
consider most definitely.
