And no reason why of course both machines need to connect to the home
network in the same way, one machine can be wired and the other connect
wirelessly until such time as you choose to wirelessly enable the other
machine if indeed you ever choose to do so.

Hi Alexander,

From what you describe, it appears that you wife has a normal,
hard-wire, RJ45 connection, which is used to connect to a router or such
like with a cable.

However, without knowing the specific make and model of your wife's
laptop, one cannot be 100% certain that it does not already have
wireless capability. It may simply be disabled.

George.

Subject: [access-uk] URGENT advice required regarding wireless and wired
network connections with BT broadband

Hi all,

As of Friday both my wife and myself are going broadband with BT.

I have just discovered a problem with my wife's Toshiba laptop computer,
as she has the option in network connections to create a LAN high speed
internet connection.
When I put the cursor on Local Area Network it says something about
Intel NTR Pro V net.

The problem is that on my Acer machine I have the option to create a
wireless network however going by the information I have coppied above
it looks as if my wife does not have that option.

My question is considering that the broadband is being fitted on Friday,
do I need to go out and purchase a wireless network card for my wife's
machine so that we can both be connected wirelessly, or considering that
we both have laptops, is it worth going ahead and connecting them
together with a wired network as my Acer Laptop has both options.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
