Thanks, Steve. Depending on the size of your house, that sounds fairly
reasonable for a good sense of security. You have total control over when
and how the system is set. Plus, your house insurance should also go down,
which isn't the case with some cheap alarm systems.

Hi Barry,

Depends on how expensive the non-talking system is. I am not familiar with
current prices, but we paid 995 pounds for the whole system, which also
included the light sensors, a Braille overlay for the control panel, and so
excellent tuition on the system after it was fitted.

All the best

Hi Steve

It sounds like a great system. I presume it is more expensive than a none
talking system - Was it considerably more?

Hi Barry,

This is where a talking system like the Smart system I wrote about in an
earlier message helps. It speaks everything, including setting the clock,
zone activation/deactivation, doors opening/closing, it is a great system,
and nice for me to play with <Smile>.

Hi Derek

I've come across two keypad types on alarm systems: One being the simple
telephone keypad and the other being two rows of numbers. Both of these
have been easy to set and turn off. However, they get a little complicated
when you want to turn certain zones off and have the rest of the alarm on.
I think the best thing to do is either to buy a simple one or to go
somewhere where you can have a play around with one.

Hi all
Does anyone have any experience operating an intruder alarm system?

I am wondering how easy they're to set if one is blind visually impaired.

I mean the control panel, are the buttons like a phone, so one just
keys in a code to set, then another code to turn off, is that right.

Regards,
Derek
