Catherine, If you don't mind paying around £19 for it ultimately, GetRight is 
my suggestion.  Over the years I tried numerous free download managers 
and rejected some because of Spyware issues and others because they 
were unreliable or not very screen reader friendly.     

Still being on a dial up connection I find a good download manager 
absolutely essential.
