Hi Roger,

This is the point where knowing about the system you have is a real advantage.  
You first need to know what type of memory is installed in the machine, and 
what type of memory the motherboard supports.

For example, if you have 512mb of ram in the machine, but you have 4 slots 
available, and those 4 slots are filled up using 4 128mb sticks, then you 
obviously need to buy new sticks.

It is never a good idea to mix types - i.e, 2 256mb and 1 512mb stick as 
opposed to 2 512mb sticks.

Is your computer a specific brand or did you just have it built for you?

Hi All

My Intel Celeron system using XP Home has 512 megs of RAM memory. I'm 
thinking of increasing this to 1024 megs. This gives rise to 2 questions; 
the first is how difficult is it? Do I simply plug in the new items to the 
motherboard and it sorts it's self out or is there more to it than that? 
Secondly how do I discover which of the multitude available I actually need. 
I have looked on Control Panel and Balarc Advisor and can find nothing more 
than the fact I have 512 megs of memory.
