Hi Billy,

Perhaps I didn't make it clear.  Only CRITICAL updates get
installed automatically.  With IE7 you will be asked, and
only if you do a Custom Update.

automatic updates, but 
the only snitch I come across. I don't want to upgrade to
IE7, but it 
Autimatic Updates keeps trying to install 7 on my system,
this is a bummer,

Hi Billy,

I run a Windows 2003 Server with a network of XP
Professional systems and one Vista, plus various laptops,
and have always allowed Windows to automatically apply
"critical" updates.  Emphasis on "critical", since you will
not get non-urgent updates like Explorer for example.

Of course I'm tempting fate here, but in the 8-10 years I've
been doing this, I've not had a problem which has prevented
us from working.  Many of these updates plug security holes,
and in many cases I'm sure have actually prevented us from
getting malicious attacks on our systems.

The anti-Microsluge people will scream and shout that this
is dangerous.  Well - so is crossing the road!!
