hi it checks your disk for errors.
have a look in the start up options under msconfig.
you may have it running there, so just disable it.

Subject: [access-uk] chkdsk
Hi,
How can I stop this thing? I am trying to defrag my external hard drive
and
it keeps giving me error saying that chkdsk is set to run on this volume
please run chkdsk. I have no idea how to stop it or even what it does.
Thank you.
