[access-uk] Re: Accessability comments on Pinpoint on-line wanted

Hi, Ray,

Sorry, must have missed your original message, so that's why I'm attaching my reply to Graham's.

MSN Groups aren't too bad for accessibility as far as I'm concerned. However, please note that I still rely to some extent on my pathetic levels of sight, and don't have JAWS or anything else posh.

For a partially sighted person, at least MSN Groups use scaleable fonts, and the colour contrasts are OK. Group owners can change all sorts of settings to meet particular needs, in any case.

As far as I know, there isn't a visual verification procedure in MSN Groups (unlike Yahoo and several others), though you do need an MSN Passport to join everything you might want to. a Passport is simply your e-mail address and some sort of password.

I've just tried Narrator on the Pinpoint site, and it does make some sort of sense of it - it reads the group links fine, so you wouldn't get completely lost even using the humble Narrator.

Hope that helps a bit.

Vince

Hi Ray.

It looks pretty accessible. It's a shame that proper HTML headings are not
used but all links are meaningful from what I can tell. I have only looked
at the home page mind you.

Cheers

Graham

I would like to ask anyone who has the time to take a look at:

http://groups.msn.com/PinpointOnline

and comment on its accessability. there is a graphical image without an
alt-tag near the top of the page, but otherwise it doesn't seem to bad. The
guy I'm posting on behalf of isn't a website designer/writer in the techy
sense, but would like to keep the facility on-line if its accessable enough.

I've never heard of Microsoft Communities which this site is hosted by, so
any
comments there too would be interesting. If its simply a simple way for
ordinary folks to put up a site, is there an alternative which is
particularly
hot from the access angle?

Thanks.
Ray
