Damon, no. You can enter the channel number directly, or you can use the
plus and minus buttons to scroll through channels.
I hope you can get hold of one because Sky have discontinued them for some
bizarre reason. Perhaps they annoyed sighted people as there is no TV
screen?

Yes it has two rows of buttons along the bottom of the Gnome. There is a
volume up and down, buttons 1 to 10, and a channel up and down facility.
You can change channels wherever the Gnome is as long as you are within
range of its transmitter.

Yes Jackie, my curiosity is satisfied, sounds like a useful nifty
little gadget, thank you for taking the time to describe it for us.
Must find out if my TV provider Canal Sat. sells such a thing, would
save me having to walk with headphones on all over the house and garden
and sometimes meet up with a tree when I watch tennis matches.

Hi Marie
Well, the Sky Gnome is not a soft cuddly little fellow. In fact, he
isn't like a gnome at all.
The Sky Gnome has a flat bottom with little rubberised feet on it to
stop it sliding about. It is kind of pyramid-shaped with a flat
screen on the front. Underneath the screen are two rows of buttons
that allow you to manipulate the device. The sides slope up to a
point with the stereo speakers at the rear. Basically, what the Sky
Gnome allows you to do is listen to Sky channels around the house or
in the garden. You have a transmitter bit that plugs into the Sky box
to receive the Sky Gnome.
It runs on a rechargeable battery that lasts about eight hours I
think. You can listen to it through headphones if you wish, and I
think - if my memory serves me right - it costs about £65. You can
get it in bright orange or blue.
I love the wee fellow. It is one of those things that is a favourite
and goes around the house if I'm listening to a footy or tennis match
on Sky at the time. He's been everywhere from the bathroom to
outside, and works a treat.
I wrote a review about it some time ago called A Roam With The Gnome,
if anyone wants it off list.

Just as a matter of interest because I couldn't have one of those
here even if I wanted one since it wouldn't work what is it and what
does it do that is so special and fabulous? something to do with
radio signals, guessing by the post about it but what? describe it in
your inimitable way Jackie please!
Can you take it to bed with you? is it furry?

Isn't the little Gnome fabulous? I've got an orange one, and he
doesn't even resemble a gnome.
We changed the frequency because they interfered with Ian's cordless
headphones. I wouldn't like to be without it.

has anyone who uses a sky gnome suffered this problem?
you're listening to your sky gnome, when you get serious white
noise?
switching off the sky box, but leaving the gnome on results in you
getting a
strong signal from someone else's overenthusiastic fm transmitter?
if so, you can change the frequency the sky gnome works on. to do
this
follow these instructions.
Changing sky gnome RF.
1. Press and hold the sky button on the sky gnome until you see the
menu.
2. Press a number from one to 4 on the sky gnome to choose one of
the
four frequencies.
3. within ten seconds point the sky remote control at the set top
box
and press the same number as on the gnome
4. press the standby button on the sky remote control to apply the
settings and the base station will turn set top box back on
5. If the box does not turn on automatically press the standby
button
to turn it back on and start the process again from step one..
make sure your TV is on to help you in this process.
possible issues.
step one says to look for the menu to pop up on the sky gnome
screen. if
you are blind or vi you cannot do this, so the solution I found was
to hold
the button in for ten seconds once you hear sound from the sky
gnome.
also, once you press a number between one and four, btw, the
default
manufacturer setting is to broadcast on channel one, you will hear
the sky
gnome broadcasting white noise. you then press the corresponding
button on
the sky remote, E.G. to switch to channel three from one, press
three on the
gnome and then three on the remote. Then switch off your box with
the
standby button on the remote. note: if your reset has been
successful, you
will hear a little white noise as the sky box switches to standby.
if it is
not successful, you will just hear it go silent.
