Jackie, very good advice re. taking great care in choice when its your
money being spent. This is the main reason I cannot contribute much
ore to this thread as my interest is, shall we say, academic, not
having the wherewithall to buy one of these notetakers.
One thing that might appeal if I were able to get help with buying one
of these is how effective any of them would be for location recording.
that would be a considerable plus to me to have a good notetaker
alongside a respectable audio recorder.
Still, I don't wish to divert the thrust of this trhead, so I'll call
it a day now.
Cheers,

Ari, someone like Ian could answer your question about tables on
MPower.
You couldn't read them in my day.
I feel for you having lost a whole load of work. My friend does a lot
of
work and totally relies on his PM. He has to resort to using the
internal
flash memory because of memory loss, as stated before. He's thinking
of
going for the Omni upgrade, but I've told him straight I'd rather
spend the
money on a laptop and pinch the display off his PM to work with it
when he
needs Braille. He doesn't have the weight issue I do with carrying it
about, but I think he has his heart set on sticking with PM because of
what
he has already spent on it. That's the other issue for me with all
note-takers. If you're not in work or education, you've committed
yourself
to a company with their wares, and it's difficult to jump ship and go
for
something else.
Because of what I like to do on the PC rather than a note-taker, I use
my
laptop lying down and the PC when I can sit to scan or print. I've
got a
secondhand display on the PC which I think is fab and would hate to be
without. But if I went to work or returned to studying, I don't
honestly
know what I would use as a note-taker. Lugging a laptop wouldn't be
an
option for me, and none of what I've seen on the specialist front does
it
for me.
All I would advise anyone, especially if the funding is coming out of
your
own pocket, is to really think carefully. All the companies will tell
you
their products do this and that, and it's only when you get it on your
own
to put it through its paces that you find them out for real. That
isn't
being derogatory to the companies, however, as I don't have a personal
issue
with the dealers of the note-takers being discussed. It's the
products
themselves that I think fall short for the money they are sold at.
Good luck Ari.
