In case others were also contemplating alternatives, in addition to the
RealBasic-Valentina combo (which sounds like having to wade through a lot
of bugs which will be promptly attended to by an eager crew at the
respective companies), there is also Visual FoxPro for Mac.
Unlimited licensing of free standalone executables. Also, permits both
OOP and procedural development (Valentina is strictly OO-model). So the
learning curve doesn't seem to be too steep.
On what grounds does 4D think they can bilk us for deploying standalones?
The suggestion that they are trying to dig into our pockets to make up
for their poor marketing is beginning to ring true.
Giving in at this point is a really bad idea, in my opinion, as it will
open the flood gates. But overall, I'd have to think that 4D is slowly
digging its own grave. There is much more competition out there than I
previously thought.
