What about those 12 inch video disc's? As far as I can remember, they
were the first laser-read discs, a few years before cd's.
Optical disc offers a number of advantages over magnetic storage media. An
optical disc holds much more data.
Then, why is it that a cd can only hold 79:57 of music and an open reel
tape can hold up to 6.5 hours (or more) per-side.
