Hi Pem,
here is what Windows XP says;
To manually put your computer into hibernation
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of either the
Administrators or Power Users group in order to complete this procedure. If
your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also
prevent you from completing this procedure.
Open Power Options in Control Panel.
Click the Hibernate tab, and then select the Enable hibernate support check
box.
If the Hibernate tab is not available, your computer does not support this
feature.
Click OK to close the Power Options dialog box.
Click Start, and then click Shut Down.
In the What do you want the computer to do drop-down list, click Hibernate.
After that you should go into hibernation when you click on shutdown.
I hope this helps.
I just found this software program;
Rich Levin's Original HIBERNATER TM
http://www.rblevin.net/HBN_Index.htm
FREE Automatic Hibernation Utility for Microsoft Windows XP
How it's Easier
Hibernater requires just one click to activate hibernation. By contrast,
Windows requires users to enter multiple clicks and navigate menus to send
their PC into hibernation. Also, depending on how your Windows XP system is
configured, the hibernation option might not appear on any menus.
How it's Faster
Hibernater also sends most PCs into hibernation faster than the standard
Windows hibernation command. Most PCs hibernate instantly, with no waiting
or delays, when Hibernater's icon is clicked.
How to Use
Just install Hibernater. The setup program will put a Hibernater shortcut
into your Startup folder. Hibernater will load automatically the next time
you logon to your PC. When you're ready to send your PC into hibernation,
click the Hibernater icon in your system tray (Hibernater's black and yellow
icon looks like a quarter moon).

Is there a program that will put an Icon on my desktop to make my system go
